Spiritual Directors International Plants Trees
In our commitment to going green, we’re proud to be
♦ publishing many of our educational publications online, ♦ relying on e-mail communications over paper mailings, and ♦ encouraging the community to make use of SDI’s online resources as much as possible.
But going green is about more than using fewer resources; it’s also about giving back resources to a world that’s given much to each of us. That’s why Spiritual Directors International plants trees.
We’ve been publishing Presence journal, educational resources, newsletters, books, and much more for more than twenty years. Trees help SDI reach out and share wisdom with the world, and we give thanks by returning the favor. Every one of us participates in shaping a world that supports life that flourishes. We invite you to join Spiritual Directors International’s commitment to foster forests by planting trees.
Will you join Spiritual Directors International in planting trees? Your gift to the Spiritual Directors International Tree Planting Fund will contribute to keeping our beautiful earth … beautiful.
Planting trees is an act of gratefulness, generosity, and generativity. Donate now to help Spiritual Directors International plant trees.
We’ve been planting trees for years…

September 2010: SDI Plants Trees in Winter Park, Flordia, USA
SDI planted three trees at the opening day of Audire, a spiritual formation program for spiritual directors. These trees were presented in gratitude for Brother David Liedl who served for three years on the SDI Coordinating Council. At his request, the San Pedro Center in Winter Park, Florida, USA was the planting site since it was the location of his training as a spiritual director through Audire. He went on to serve on its teaching team for many years an eventually became the program's coordinating director.

September 2010: SDI Plants a Tree in Bellevue, Washington

The Peace Path that leads visitors from the parking lot to the Peace and Spirituality Center of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Peace is a beautifully maintained path through the trees, yet it was hidden and hard to find for new visitors who may not even know of its existence unless they should happen upon it by chance. On International Peace Day, September 21st, 2010, Spiritual Directors International changed that by marking the entrance to the Peace Path with a tall, white peace pole, greeting all who arrive with a message of peace and drawing them towards the path’s entrance. In eight languages, it blesses the Peace Path with this message: “May Peace Prevail on Earth.” A new cedar tree now also lines the path, planted by Spiritual Directors International and blessed by the Sisters of St Joseph of Peace to continue a long tradition of giving back to this beautiful Earth – may peace indeed prevail! Spiritual Directors International gave the gift of a cedar tree and peace pole in gratitude for sharing office space.

December 2009: SDI Plants a "Gratefulness" Tree in Australia

We celebrate with deep gratefulness the planting of an oak tree, as a symbol of gratefulness from Spiritual Directors International to Australia, to Mother Earth, to Melbourne’s hosting of the Parliament of the World’s Religions, “Make a World of Difference: Hearing each other, Healing the earth.” We celebrate the contribution that spiritual direction is making around the world and across traditions to build community capacity for compassion, peace, justice and stewarding all of God’s creation.

A special thank you to SDI Coordinating Council member Sally Taylor who
will deliver the trees from her garden and graciously preside from her
Buddhist stance in a ritual that celebrates the importance of trees in
several spiritual traditions. Your prayers will join their blessings to
nurture the trees that someday will provide shade for students studying
spiritual direction.
