Minding the Gaps: Knowing and Unknowing
Derbyshire, UK, Europe: May 12-15, 2008
Sponsored by The Retreat Association
There was a lunch meeting with Executive Director Liz Ellmann at this conference on Tuesday, May 13, 2008. They talked about cultivating the value of spiritual direction.
The Retreat Association conference takes place on 12-15th May at the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, Derbyshire.
The Conference statement
Mindful of the gaps in relationships, society and the world, this Conference seeks to discern what the murmurings of the Spirit may be saying about spirituality around us and within us today. Working with the theme of stories we seek to listen to one another's unique life stories in discerning the movement of the Spirit both in our own lives and in the world in which we live.
In a culture where 'spirituality' is everywhere - from 'bubble bath for the soul' to Health Club 'retreats', where fengshui is a more likely topic of conversation than the Atonement, where spiritual language is a free-for-all, we reflect on the spirituality around us.
What is there in it and in us that can make the difference we long for in our fractured world? In the gaps between haves and have nots, concern for the planet and consumerism, institution and relationships, we need to ask the questions that might lead us to the world becoming more fully human. How does the retreat movement engage in a vibrant and vital way with these concerns?
