I think we need a growing corps (and core) of trained people for whom spiritual direction is a primary vocation. And we also then need thousands upon thousands of people who have been trained by them in soul-friendship ... in learning to ask gentle but "opening" questions, who learn how to create and protect safe space for people to "come into the light" so to speak, in the presence of God, and in the presence of a compassionate friend bearing the love of God.
