Enneagram - The Nine Faces of the Soul

We all want to heal and grow, to thrive and prosper, to feel whole not broken. We yearn to feel the deep connection that links all beings. Some call it experiencing God’s presence or deepening in their particular faith. Others use the word “Spirit” or refer to awareness or awakening or compassion. But in all traditions – and for the millions of people without a tradition – authenticity is the gateway to a spiritual life. People of spirit have always sought true self. And the search for true self is central to the Enneagram.

Designed for spiritual directors but open to anyone on a spiritual path, this 4-part webinar series, presented by Australian spiritual director and Enneagram teacher Margaret Loftus, explores this ancient wisdom system. Learn more about yourself and start to see the world through other people’s eyes -- understanding why people think, feel and behave the way they do. Member discount: $20.

Reimagining Supervision

Supervision is an ethical imperative for spiritual directors. At its best, it is also a compassionate, contemplative practice that brings freedom to spiritual directors and, by extension, spiritual directees as well. In this webinar we will discuss supervision as a grounded, safe, compassionate relationship between peers, one designed to provide new ways forward for both spiritual directors and spiritual directees.

This webinar frames supervision as a process we engage in to better serve our spiritual directees. It focuses supervision on the inner experience of a spiritual director in relationship to the spiritual directee and discusses the role of teaching and consultation in supervision. Further, we will explore various supervision formats and highlight reasonable ways for those with only a few spiritual directees to make use of supervision.

The Recovery Journey: Resources and Practices for Spiritual Directors

Cultural humility and radical hospitality are core principles that inform both the ministry and service of spiritual direction and the recovery journey. As spiritual directors, we walk alongside those who may be wrestling with the challenges of addiction. How can we best serve with an open heart as vessels of transformation and healing?

In this webinar, we will explore specific practices, tools, and resources for spiritual directors companioning people with addiction and their loved ones, such as prayer, meditation, ritual, and embodied practice. Spiritual direction with people in recovery also includes commitment to social justice issues that directly affect addiction and codependency. Come and explore resources from a variety of faiths and cultural traditions utilizing specific case examples.

Important Note: Participants in this webinar should have a basic understanding of addiction and twelve-step recovery programs. In February, Karen offered a webinar about spiritual direction and addition that laid the groundwork for this webinar. Participants may find it valuable to purchase and view the first webinar.

Creating Safe Space on the Margins

As spiritual directors, we know the value of sharing our life story as expressed through word and art. For people on the margins, the story is sometimes shared in small broken pieces, but we trust that a beautiful mosaic of life is being created.

Providing opportunities for men and women recovering from addiction, mental illness, and homelessness to explore their spirituality is a ministry of healing and wholeness.

Sometimes the greater challenge is learning to work with the agencies and recovery-centered programs. This webinar will offer ways to connect with—and navigate through—the systems that are in place and share curriculum topics that will guide individuals in sharing their story.

Mercy Matters

Why does mercy matter today? What is our role as spiritual directors in helping others receive and offer mercy?

Mercy is a virtue that counters widely held beliefs, which place value on getting ahead at any cost, earning our worth, and striving for power. Showing mercy is often viewed as being weak. Yet the world is in desperate need of the transformative power of mercy.

This webinar will unpack what mercy means and why it matters. In addition, it will look at the unique role a spiritual director has helping others increase their capacity for mercy.

Step 11 and Beyond: Addiction, Recovery, and Spiritual Awakening

Spiritual direction can be an important relationship where people explore the spiritual dimension of addiction and recovery including the impact on partners, friends, family, and relationship with the Divine. Twelve-step recovery programs have always been explicitly spiritual, particularly Step 11, which emphasizes the use of prayer and meditation to deepen one’s conscious contact with God.

There are many different spiritual perspectives about the epidemic of addictions, viewing it as a response to individual and collective trauma, a disease, or a reaction to the prohibition in Western culture against experiences of non-ordinary transcendent states of consciousness. In this webinar, we will explore a basic understanding of addiction, codependency, and spirituality including the relationship between trauma, spirituality, and addiction, and discuss possible ways to explore these in spiritual direction. We will draw on culturally diverse resources from a variety of racial, ethnic, religious, spiritual, and gender perspectives.

This webinar is specifically designed for experienced spiritual directors and soul care providers, using interactive teaching, somatic awareness, meditation, and experiential practice.

The Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius for Our Time

Since the sixteenth century, The Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola have invited Christians to a lived experience of divine union with God, through closer relationship with Jesus. The fruitfulness of the Ignatian retreat is integration; a way of living daily in the awareness of God’s longing and love for us and for the whole of creation, and our response in faithfulness to the sacredness within and all around us.

In the five centuries since Saint Ignatius’ own spiritual insights, society has advanced in the areas of science and technology. We can now see through a much different lens into the vastness of the earth and space and into the lives of peoples and far off places in an instant.

This webinar will introduce The Spiritual Exercises for our time and include the inspirations and insights of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin and other contemporary voices who have engaged us in the deeper mystery of God’s presence and purpose … in our very souls and in the soul of the universe.

Meditation and Mindfulness for Everyone

Why meditate? You may have heard how meditation and mindfulness practices can offer scientifically verifiable benefits for your physical and spiritual health. Meditation benefits include reduction in stress; improved psychological, emotional, and physical well-being; as well as increases in compassion and altruistic behaviors. Beyond the scientific benefits—and more importantly for many seekers and spiritual companions—meditation fosters an openness of mind and heart that can be transformative, making room for spiritual growth.

Through his work with college students, creative artists, and writers, Sean Murphy has developed an inclusive, non-denominational approach to these powerful tools, which can be put into practice by anyone—including you and the people you spiritually companion.
