Seek and Find: A Worldwide Resource Guide of Available Spiritual Directors
The new Seek and Find Guide exists in a Google map format to allow you interactive access to spiritual directors in specific geographic locations. You can find spiritual directors by ‘clicking, zooming, and dragging’ the map, or by using drop down menus and search boxes located at the top of the map. Informative text boxes have also been created to guide you forward in seeking spiritual directors to interview.
Using the ‘click and
drag’ function on the Seek and Find Guide is easy. Simply click on the
map with your mouse and drag the map so that the location you are
seeking is in the middle of the screen. A green circle with a plus sign
will indicate that you will need to zoom in to display results of
spiritual directors in that location. To zoom in, click on the green
circle. Alternatively, you can use the compass located in the upper
left-hand corner of the screen to move the map up, down, left, or
right, as well as the convenient ‘zoom in/zoom out’ bar located to the
left of the map screen.
Individual starburst symbols 
will
appear on the map when you zoom in on locations where spiritual
directors are offering spiritual direction. Spiritual directors located
in that map location will be listed below the map. To access
information about spiritual directors, drag your cursor over a
particular starbust to activate the name of the director, or click on
the name of the spiritual director on the list. This will zoom in
further on the spiritual director’s location and open a text box
listing name, location, telephone number, and spiritual affiliation, as
well as expanded listings about spiritual directors for those directors
with that feature. Note: To protect the privacy of spiriutal directors,
all locations for spiritual directors are approximate.
Another easy way to locate spiritual directors in the new Seek and Find Guide is by using the drop down menus and search function boxes located at the top of the map. There are two drop down menus and two search function boxes located at the top of the Seek and Find Guide that perform specific functions. From left to right, the menus are ‘Select country’ and ‘Select State, Province, County, Territory’, and the search boxes are ‘Enter your location here’ and ‘Filter results’.
To select the desired country you wish to search, simply click on the ‘Select country’ drop down menu to activate the menu list. Click and drag the bar on the right hand side of the menu until you have located the desired country highlighted in blue (countries are listed in alphabetic order). Click on the country name to zoom in on the country.
The ‘Select State, Province, County, Territory’ menu works in conjunction with ‘Select country’ menu. After a country has been selected, the states, provinces, counties, and territories for that country will be available for selection in this drop down menu. Click and drag the bar the bar on the right hand side of the menu to find the desired location. Click on the location to zoom in on that area.
To quickly find a specific location you can use the ‘Enter your location here’ search function box. Words that are entered into this input field will be used to quickly navigate to your location. You can type in postal codes, countries, provinces, states, cities, etc. Anything that Google understands as a location will work to navigate quickly and easily. Enter your location and click ‘Search’. Caution: since many places use duplicate names, you may need to search with more information.
The ‘Filter results’ search function box can be used to narrow search results based on specific terms, such as family name, spiritual affiliation, institution, city, etc. Enter a term into the input field, click ‘Search’, and the filter will return results in the location based on your specific criteria.
Explanations of the ‘Enter your location here’ and ‘Filter results’ search function boxes can also be found by clicking on the specific input field boxes to activate informative text boxes.
