Each morning, there will be several contemplative practice opportunities for you to participate in from 7:00–7:45 a.m.
Centering Prayer with Kathy Di Fede
Centering Prayer is a Christian meditation practice developed and taught by Father Thomas Keating, a Trappist monk who resides at St. Benedict’s Monastery in Snowmass, Colorado, USA. To begin, Kathy will go over the guidelines for Centering Prayer. Together, participants will spend twenty-five minutes in silent prayer, beginning and ending the time by ringing a gong. There will be a brief time for questions and reflections at the end of the prayer.
Gentle Yoga with Alan Haras
Meet for a forty-five minute gentle yoga class designed to emphasize the contemplative dimension of breath, movement, and sacred intention. Drawing inspiration from the treasure house of yogic teachings and traditional practices, Alan's classes weave together insights from various lineages to shed light on our own unique experience of the Divine Mystery. We will conclude each session with a guided relaxation and a few moments to enjoy silent meditation.
Tai Chi with Karl Newmeyer, LCSW
This will be an experience in flowing movement meditation combining Tai Chi and Qigong, ancient Chinese health exercises created to cultivate and circulate energy and promote physical, emotional, and spiritual balance. The movements will be simple and easy to follow; they improve relaxation, concentration, and mindfulness. As a licensed clinical social worker, Karl focuses on the therapeutic and mind/body benefits of this “meditation in motion.” His teaching style has been described as one of humor, respect, and compassion.
