Northern Virginia Regional Gathering for Spiritual Companions - September 22, 2019
Please take a few moments to read this letter of invitation.
This free event is sponsored by Spiritual Directors International.
We have two items of interest for everyone:
September 22 Gathering - Companioning the Addict to Spiritual Health
The next gathering of spiritual directors and companions will be September 22, 2019 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 1500 N Glebe Road, Arlington, VA 22207. We will start with a gathering/social time from 2:00 – 2:30, then the program will be from 2:30 – 4:30. This will allow more time for those coming from Sunday morning activities.
Nancy Wehe will be leading a presentation on Companioning the Addict to Spiritual Health. She will be discussing the general tendencies of the alcoholic/addict thinking process. Then she will lead the group through two exercises that she uses in her practice to break through the guilt and shame into hope, positive anticipation and confidence in a personal spiritual path.
Remember that there is a parking lot, with an entrance on Glebe Road, across from the 16th Street side of the church. Cross 16th Street then come up the stairs into the building and the Gathering Space. There is handicap parking in the lot and a handicap entrance facing Glebe Road with an elevator to the Sanctuary level.
Peer Supervision Groups
Several people have asked about either joining an existing peer supervision group, or finding people who live nearby to start up a new peer group.
1) Catalina Conneally-Salazar is offering to host a group in Germantown, MD at the DaySpring Retreat Center, Germantown, MD, the day and time to be determined by group members.
Details: Looking for a Supervision Group within a contemplative community? Using silence, sharing and reflection we will discern how the Holy One is moving in our lives as Spiritual Directors. The invitation is to spend some personal time on the grounds, (the property sits on 200 acres with many walking paths) participate in the Supervision Circle and follow up with a potluck meal. Participants would be welcome to all 3 parts or can choose only the Group Reflection.
Location: Overlook Retreat House on the grounds of DaySpring Retreat Center, Germantown, MD. http://www.dayspringchurchmd.org/ministries/21
2) Are you looking to start or join a peer group?
Send an email with your preferred meeting location to Bruce (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you are interested in a peer group. He will match people up by location, and send information out to each group so individuals can contact each other.
If your peer group needs new members, select one person willing to be contacted, and send her/his name to Bruce (email@example.com). He will email the names and contact information of people seeking a group who live nearby.
Mark your calendar for October 20 and November 17 when the next gatherings will be held.
If you are not able to attend this meeting, but want to be informed about future events or meetings, please send an email to Steven Crandell, Director of Content for SDI: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Note: These gatherings seek to provide an opportunity for spiritual directors and companions in our region to connect. We want to create a place where we can learn about other faiths and religious traditions, share contemplative time or meditation, and practice new skills in spiritual care. Maybe you feel the same? Please join us.
