D ear Friends,
The next gathering of spiritual directors in Northern Virginia will be on Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, 1500 N Glebe Road, Arlington, VA 22207.
This session is entitled “The Experience of Consolation and Desolation in the Ignatian Tradition.” Led by Linda Winter, it will reflect on how these spiritual movements might be expressed during spiritual direction. Then she will invite the participants to break into small groups to play a game of "Snares and Ladders" to offer examples to generate discussion on how to be present with a directee who is experiencing consolation or desolation to encourage shared learning from our own experiences of these spiritual movements.
The following meeting, November 17, 2019, will be led by Margot Eyring with the presentation “Engaging Art as Sacred Practice: Exploring a Tool to Invite Creativity in Spiritual Direction and Formation.” In this experiential workshop, we will participate in sacred art practice and explore together a model Margot has been developing and how it can be used to support creativity in your spiritual direction and formation practice.
Please RSVP here so that we have some idea of how many people will be attending.
Some people have had difficulty finding the church parking lot, which is opposite the side of the church, on the other side of 16th Street. The entrance to the parking lot is on Glebe Road. From the parking lot you will need to walk across 16th Street and come up the stairs into the side of the building and the Gathering Space. There is handicap parking in the parking lot and the handicap entrance is on the front of the building facing Glebe Road. After crossing 16th street, enter at the Glebe Road handicap entrance instead of the 16th Street doors and use the elevator to the Sanctuary level.
Finally, Bruce has heard from several people who are seeking to form peer supervision groups, and there are three groups that are starting to come together. Let him know if you are looking for a group.

Note: These gatherings seek to provide an opportunity for spiritual directors and companions in our region to connect. We want to create a place where we can learn about other faiths and religious traditions, share contemplative time or meditation, and practice new skills in spiritual care. Maybe you feel the same? Please join us.
