Rev. Dr. Rebecca Ritchey, DMin (1945–2014)

Rev. Dr. Rebecca Ritchey, DMin died suddenly on January 12, 2014. She was beloved and a valuable member of Spiritual Directors International for more than a decade. Her vibrant spirit was appreciated on the editorial review panel of Presence journal, and her ministry and service at Honam Seminary in Gwangju, South Korea will be a lasting legacy of her commitment to furthering spiritual direction. While at Honam Seminary, she taught English as a second language and helped start a spiritual direction training program.

Peace be to her memory.

Tributes from the Community

Becky was my spiritual director for several years. She introduced me to spiritual direction! Becky was deeply loved at Louisville Seminary, and was instrumental in getting the labyrinth installed. A bench there honors the memory of her late husband. The day I learned of her passing, I walked the labyrinth in the snow. It brought back such wonderful memories of Becky. While in South Korea, she helped me discern a call to Shalem's Contemplative Prayer program. She was never too far away to help. God's peace to all her directees and her family in West Virginia.

I completed my coursework with Rebecca receiving a Diploma in the Art of Spiritual Direction from San Francisco Theological Seminary. She was an inspiration to me and her friendship was a mentoring influence in my learning as a Spiritual Director. Thank you and Peace be with you, Rebecca.

Rebecca was such a credit to the San Francisco Theological Seminary Diploma in the Art of Spiritual Direction, from which she graduated. We shall miss her spirit, but trust that she can continue to bless us all from her new location in the Communion of Saints.
